Sarah Pletcher
I am a NYC based artist and academic. My artistic practice primarily consists of conceptual performance art, fibers making (felt, weaving and embroidery,) and recently ceramics. Most of my artistic practice and academic writings investigate the unacknowledged labor of queer and femme people’s bodies when it comes to the production of art, and children. What can be reoriented when we consider the physical, emotional, and ideological realities of people's bodies when they are seen as sites of production of art objects, and sites of conception and procreation in the same theoretical space. I exist in a cis/fem body and yet I have no desire to make the thing that my body can (at this point in time) easily make; babies. I am not interested in art as a replacement, or surrogate for procreation of children, but as a whole other avenue of making and production within capitalist systems. I examine bodies in relationship to procreation as a production space of future laborers and bodies in relation to spaces of production of art objects to be sold.
